Fort Wayne

There is so much interesting history here that I can't even began to write about it. This site was originally used as a burial site by the American Indians 900 years ago. Three different forts were built on these grounds. Two most interesting facts: every vehicle, tank, truck or jeep that was made in Detroit came through the fort headed to the front during WWII and during the Great Depression the fort housed the homeless. The fort was used as a mustering site for all the wars including the Civil War and WWI and WWII.
Check out the wikipedia site for more history and pictures.

Empty now, this door must have let pass thousands of men who worked here or were stationed here to be sent on to the front. That is what I love about old deserted buildings, imagining what it was like when it was a  thriving and vital part of society.

You can hear the boot steps of the men who marched, the laughter of the children that played and the families that called this place home for a small part of their lives.

No one here now. Just emptiness but I am sure that there are spirits haunting some of these buildings.

This doorway leads into the fort proper...shaped like a star.

More photos to follow and more memories to imagine.
