Happy New Year Everyone

Before the days of personal computers, cell phones, DVRs and Hoverboards, there was this beauty. Looking back to 1956 or so, who would have thought that McDonalds would make us all fat and that cars would have heated seats, GPS and backup cameras. I was thinking that 16 years ago was the millennium and the Y2K scare. I remember having to work at midnight with my boss, hoping and praying that all the computers didn't crash. If they did I never knew what they expected us to do as we were not very computer savey. Can't believe that was 16 years ago.
Happy New Years to you all.

Presidential Limousines

The Henry Ford has a nice collection of Presidnetial Limosines and I thought that I would post a few pictures of them. Of course, the most famous is President Kennedy's limo. My favorite is the limo that FDR used.......looks presidential and kind of like a tank. Here are just two for today.

 Teddy Roosevelt's horse drawn Brougham
used until 1928. See below for more info.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Limo
that has 1949 plates but is a 1939 Lincoln

Note the foot plate and handles for use by the Secret Service

Goodbye to the Holidays

Christmas was beautiful (even though we had no snow) but now the holiday week is coming to a close. I really enjoyed all my Christmas decorations, inside and out but now comes the stinking job of putting it all away. I have no help so I will have to drag all the bins up and down the basement steps, haul the furniture back in place and clean everything up after. I am determined to sort through all the stuff that I have stored and haven't used in years and try to get rid of most of it. Also, want to organize what I do use to make things easier next year. I think that I am looking at a week of work without interruption....two weeks if I want to do other stuff like go to yoga or go to lunch with a friend. I do love the years when I get invited to one of my kid's for Christmas....hang a wreath on the door and off I go ;-)

Midnight Mass at St. Josephs

Firstly, I want to point out that I did not take any of these photos but got them from the Parish Facebook page. They were taken from the balcony so there is a great view of the whole church. It's unfortunate that I cannot share the beautiful music that was performed before and during the Mass.

Do you see the two young ladies with the white lace head coverings? You can just see my head behind them and a small bit of my red jacket.

The ritual pomp and ceremony is what I love about the Mass in Latin. This was a Solemn High Mass in Extraordinary Form.
The church pictured during the day...note missing three window on far right. They are being restored

Welcome

I came across this area, actually outside of the museum proper. It looks like a foyer or waiting room, probably used when the museum opened. Such a lovely room that I finally sat down and just enjoyed the beautiful classic early American design. I loved the shade of blue that most of the woodwork was painted.....lovely.

I can see "here comes the bride" down this beautiful staircase.

Door to the museum
I don't know much about glass, but this chandelier looks like Murano to me.

 This stair rail is beautiful!!!
