Wishing for Sunlight

Itching to get out with my camera or else find somewhere to shoot indoors....this rain is getting to me. This is one of the grasses that I have in my backyard. It is so pretty when the afternoon sun
shines on the fonds.

Rain, rain go away....

(a curly variety of a Cone flower taken this summer at the Overland Park arboretum)
...come again another day! Wow! It has been pouring rain here in the Detroit metro area. Many streets and freeways are flooded.  So, glad that the furthest that I had to go today was the post office and the library. This front is parked over us for the next four days. Had hope to get to the park or Greenfield Village. I may even give Crack O' Dawn a miss this Saturday if this weather keeps up. The trails at Lake Erie have areas that flood and I don't relish wading through that. Too bad, because October is such a nice month to walk.
Seems like a good day to just sit back and read my book. Will avoid the TV and the latest tragedy from today.  :-(

Quiet Time

When I got to the Village (early) no one was in this area so I found a bench and sat quietly for about 30 minutes. A nice place to find peace and solitude.

Last of the Summer Wine

Sad to see the autumn wildflowers not looking their best....a sure sign that colder weather is on the way. Today was so beautiful here....a little windy.... the flowers were dancing around. Yesterday a cold front came through so I think these unusual summer temperatures are over. Saw some colors at the park today as well.
Excuse me while I go and close the windows.

Corn Field

Here we are pretending that it is fall when actually we still are stuck with summer temperatures. I'm still running my AC and I am so done with that. The pumpkins, however, are ripe and Greenfield Village is having it's Harvest Festival this weekend. Last year, my daughter was visiting from SC and we went to the Village for the Halloween nights. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it.....a lot of walking for me though and Amy had to go get the car to pick me up. The Village looks beautiful when the leaves have turned. These guys below were carrying water bottles....their water was in a canning jar......cool. Makes it seem more authentic.

Hawlfest 2016

Sunday was a great success for this year's Hawkfest at Lake Erie Metropark. Saturday rained all day so everyone turned out Sunday which was a gorgeous day. I hung out with some friends from my Crack O' Dawn group and also Anne from my photography group. Also heard a presentation by Wayne Pope (famous Michigan nature photographer) .I was disappointed that there were so few raptors this year...no Barn Owl, Red-tails or Eagles. Above is an American Kestrel

Cotswold Cottage

The gardens at the Cottage were just as beautiful as ever, even though it is mid-September. Of course, the tea patio is closed but I love having the garden to myself.....it is so restful.
I think that this is a variety of Zennia
One blue flower basking in the sunlight

Reach out and touch this one....

Solidago

Every year I post a photo of my beautiful Solidago ( a hybrid of Goldenrod ). This particular plant has been divided and moved many times but at the end of summer it always comes through. I love yellow!

Innovation Nation

When I was at the Village this morning I ran into Mo Rocca, the host of Innovation Nation.
They were filming and Mo was out socializing, signing autographs and just hanging out. I talked to him briefly. He asked me where I was from and we remarked on the beautiful weather. It's always fun to see a celebrity.
Innovation Nation is about....what else?....innovation. It is hosted from either Greenfield Village or The Henry Ford (museum) It airs on CBS on Saturday mornings.
