Basketball and Water

The kids had a blast shooting baskets as well as going down the slide (every which way)

Fun at the park

Here we are having a picnic at the park before going for a swim. Lower Huron water park was so packed we didn't even stop....buses of people. Ended up at the new pool at Willow which was more reasonable. Kids had a blast. More pictures to follow!

Carney Family Reunion 2005

Thought that it would be fun to have a look at this old video from 2005. We had our Carney family reunion in Myrtle Beach. The kids sure have grown since then. Thank you Mike for putting this video togeather. I've always loved the music you chose. Can't wait for another CFR...maybe 2012?

The American Way?

Do you think that garage/yard sales are an American thing? What people will do to recycle their junk. I know this will be my last. Sitting out in 90 degree weather two days in a row was not worth the money. Salvation Army here I come...or better still, stop buying stuff!

Boys of Summer

Liam , after scoring a run in tonight's play-off game. He looks confident and with good reason...their team won. On to the next opponent Friday night. Liam had 9 people cheering him on at the game.He had several great hits and a fantastic slide into 3rd base.

Pictures of the Day

The kids and I saw a heron fly over the river when we were at Lower Huron Metropark. Could this be the same one? Wish that I could have gotten closer but the bank went straight down and I can't swim ;-)

Bambi

This dear little deer stood still enough for me to get a picture. She was in deep shade so I have edited the pic a little. For all the free food and protection in the park, she looks thin. I saw a full grown deer on the nature trail about two months ago.
Have a good day everyone.

Everyone vote. Should I buy a macro lens? Hands up?

Red Admiral

I'm not a butterfly expert but this looks like a Red Admiral to me. What is interesting is the bug...it has the same coloring as the butterfly. Came across this pair at Lake Erie Metro Park, getting nectar from a milkweed flower. There were some beautiful wild flowers in bloom...more pics tomorrow.

A Beautiful Wood

I went on a photo trip early this morning. You can take two hundred pictures and hope for only a few that are great. This one makes you wish you were there....luckily you can't see (or feel) the bugs. They were filthy!
I did not linger...take the picture and run ;-)

Dog Days

It sure seems like the dog days of summer already. I was out in the yard briefly to do a few things but hurried back in.
I'm posting this picture that I took last winter. Just looking at it helps me feel cooler. It is one of my favorite. Normally the river is muddy and dirty looking but in this picture the river is reflecting the sky and the rive looks blue......sky blue ;-).
In the summer this nature trail is dark and buggy but in the fall and winter months it opens up and is beautiful.
There, now I feel cooler. Have a good day everyone!

July 4th, 2010

It is hot, hot, hot! Too hot to sit outside. I haven't even heard my cardinal singing today. the neighborhood is very quiet. No mowers, hedge trimmers, weedwackers or blowers, no hammering, sawing, or loud car ,boom boom, music. I did try to sit out on the front porch but it was 86 by 11 am. Too hot for me.
Hope you are all having a good day and a peaceful 4th.

Happy 4th of July weekend

What a spectacular day today. I haven't had the AC on for 4 days. Worked out in the yard in the morning and hated to come in.
Yesterday, when I was out with the kids, I had a call from my friend Frank. He was in from Florida with his SO, Ruth. I was so sorry to have missed seeing them. I did call him today and we had a nice conversation. He had been to Russia this year and is planning a trip to India.
I met Frank when I was on my trip to England, Scotland and Ireland. He is from Michigan originally and he is kind of a famous person in his own right...but that's another story. He has traveled the world. I am so sorry that I missed him this year.
Happy holiday weekend to you all.

Turtle Cove

Yesterday we went to the water park at Lower Huron Metro park......Turtle Cove.
The kids had a blast. Between the water slides and all the other activities they finally said after about 2 hours..."let's swim" They loved the lazy river (pictured here). I found the whole park really kid friendly and I was able to relax and not worry....although both the kids are good swimmers.

Hiking the Paw Paw Trail

Pictured...Emma and Liam on the Paw Paw Trail. I had hoped that my grand kids would be as enthused as I am about nature but the hike was not a huge success. Emma was fearful of snakes and would not step off the path. All of us were bothered by bugs...my fault ...forgot the bug spray. But things did look more promising when we saw a great blue heron fly up over the river. Later Emma burst into song about a fork in the road...this song was from her school play "Lewis and Clark". Then we all searched for an appropiete walking stick. So we did end on a happy note. Later we went to a picnic area and had lunch and then, on to the water park. More on the water park tomorrow. I am beat! All day in the fresh air and sun, I'm ready for bed early tonight! For more pics from today's hike check my Facebook page.
