Brookgreen Gardens

Wood Stork

I know that these pictures are of very bad quality but I took them from the car and the darn bird wasn't cooperating.....lol. I'm posting them because I love Wood Storks and they are a rare sighting for me. Once my son-in-law saw a whole flock fly by, lucky him.  Anyway, it made my day seeing them from the causeway at Huntington Beach State Park

Foxglove

Well, I have been home for a few days and have finally gotten around to looking at the photos that I took when I was in South Carolina. I sure do miss being there with my family and I miss the beautiful weather, the ocean and the flowers at Brookgreen. I missed all the Azaleas and flowering trees as they were so early this year. There were some beautiful perennials though like these fabulous Foxgloves. Enjoyed the gardens and of course my favorite...the state park. I will plug away and get all my photos edited and posted. Still waiting for Spring here in Michigan  : (

Double-Crested Cormorant

I took this photo from the car on the causeway at Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, SC.

Don't know what gyrations this bird was going thru....yawning, clearing his throat swallowing a fish??? Pretty cool though

Painted Bunting

Just in time to see the beautiful Painted Bunting returning after migrating south for the winter....beautiful! Photo taken at the nature center, Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, SC

From Amy's Front Porch

 Female Ruby Throat-ed Hummingbird

So, I didn't see any interesting birds at the park but today I stepped out on to my daughter's front porch and saw a pair of House Finches....ran in to get my camera and these are my feathered friends that I saw in under half hour.
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Wren

Mockingbird

Beautiful Atalaya

Chilly Weather

I paid my first visit in 2 years to Huntington Beach State Park the other day. It was very chilly and way too sunny. Not good conditions for taking photos. So,although it wasn't ideal, I did my best. I didn't stay long but opted to go for breakfast instead. There were very few shore birds and even less song birds, I plan to go again tomorrow when it will be a little warmer. It's always a shame when the weather is warmer in Michigan than here in SC

Great Blue Heron with one in the background also.....taken from the causeway

I think that this is the same pelican that I photographed on a pier on the other side of the causeway.....because he was the only one out there.
