For The Love of a Woodpecker

She was everywhere, this red-bellied woodpecker, making herself an available model! I have never seen a red-bellied come to a feeder or in this case a park bench. She is a real beauty.

Looking back on the fabulous weather, last Friday with longing. It's been a real misery ever since. It is really a beastly day out there today. Raining, windy, dark and dank with snow possible tonight. Of course as luck would have it, I have an appointment this afternoon. Last photography class tonight!

Bright Friday at Kensington

I had a wonderful walk this morning at Kensington Metropark, making up for my really crummy Thanksgiving. The park was alive...with birds and people. I took so many great photos. These are just a small sampling. The hunters were out as well and although there is no hunting in the park they sure sounded very nearby. It sounded like a shooting gallery and I can't imagine that there were that many deer walking by...or else these guys were really bad shots.

I ran into one of my instructors from my photography class and he was nice enough to give me a one on one as to better settings for photographing birds.

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the temperature moderate. Didn't see any deer though...gee, I wonder why not?

Oakwoods Metropark

Walking in the woods yesterday, it was so quiet that I had to stop and listen. Then I heard the unmistakable soft hum of the traffic on 275 and the drone of the jet engines as planes took off, one after another, from Detroit Metro. The jays were squawking and the red-bellies and flickers were also raising a ruckus. So, it wasn't as quiet as I first thought. It's funny how you tune out the every day sounds. I really was hoping to hear some bird song and considered all the rest of it as unimportant. Enjoyed my walk, however. Loved the play of the sun on the bare woods and the shadows cast by the trees.

Miss You Guys

I had so much fun in Kansas! I loved spending time with Sean and Mikey. I loved eating all the things that I am not suppose to eat. I loved all the modern conveniences in Mike and Twin's house (I live in a 3rd world nation compared to them). It was fun driving and finding my way around and I was pretty adventurous (as long as I had the GPS). Enjoyed the Overland Park Arboretum as I'm sure you can tell by my postings. The weather was great, the bed comfortable and the company was the best. Gosh, they were lucky that I left;-)

Now life is back to normal. I went to Lake Erie Metropark on Saturday evening for a talk on bird photography. There were about 40+ there. On the way to the park, on Jefferson, a deer ran right out in front of my car. I was within inches of hitting him. My heart was racing...OMG!

Back to my photography class tomorrow. I got an email instructing to bring prints and uncut mats so it looks like matting photos will be the class. Sat. we are car pooling to Pontiac to the Camera Mart. Don't really have money to spend but they will clean sensors for free so I'm in. We will shop and have lunch. Sounds like fun....camera and photo talk and lunch.

Will spend the next few weeks getting ready for Xmas, SC and our cruise. Really looking forward to all of that and seeing my family in Myrtle Beach.

Hope to meet with Ulanawa for a nature walk and photo shoot this week. I am way too busy for a retired person.
