February 2014

A normal looking February
So after weeks of balmy, warm and record breaking temperatures, Mother Nature had a few more tricks up her sleeve. This weekend has been cold, windy and snowy. What??? We just broke record high a few days ago. No wonder everyone is sick. Stop this now! No more mood swings Mrs. Nature.

Inside the THF

A lot of space to cover but if you love cars this is the place for you.
I'm not into cars but this 1955 Corvette is stunning!

Tropical

This room at the Belle Isle Conservatory is filled with ferns....I don't know if it is called the Fernery or the Tropical Room. You can look down at it but can't walk into it because it is closed off.
The weather here in Michigan has been unseasonably warm for most of February. Very weird having 60 degree temperatures in this month.... usually our coldest and snowiest month. Maybe because it is so warm that everyone is sick. I have been ill for the whole month. I feel too bad to take advantage of this warm weather and it really tics me off. It is so warm that I could probably be doing some yard work. Ugh!!! Anyway, I am looking back on this tropical paradise with fond memories.

Dolls at the African American History Museum

There is a very nice doll exhibit at the museum that we enjoyed very much.I especially loved the "old lady" dolls. There were many types of dolls.... many home made and very old.

I love her feet and dirty tow nails ;-)

Another exhibit was Leni Sinclair's B&W photos
Need to go back and take our time seeing the rest....very nice and interesting museum.

African American History Museum

What a beautiful building.....it's worth seeing just the building itself. I was a little confused as I though that this was an African Art Museum. It is actually an African American history in America. Very interesting although some if the displays of the slaves being brought by ship to this country was very disturbing to me as well as the slave auction and so on. Interesting but sad as well.
I have some other photos to post....there was no photography allowed in the galleries but I did sneak a few. If you can take pictures at the DIA and the Louvre in Paris, why not here? I'm not always good about obeying rules.

This was so beautiful....you can see the sky and clouds.

I fell in love with this sculpture and took photos from every angle.

The Inner Workings

Studio Glass at The Henry Ford

If you have ever been to The Henry Ford you may easily have missed these two hallways......one containing art glass and the other clocks. Well worth a look at both but I must say that the glass was pretty impressive. I was walking along talking to myself....wow!
