Bordines

This is only about 1/4th of the Greenhouses

This cheers up the gloomiest of days.

A full cart (cart #2)
Got all my pots planted but it is still too wet to plant in the ground. Trying to get my porches ready for summer as today is hot, sunny and breezy. I will paint the back porch floor tomorrow and get the front porch set up. The weeds are thriving and so are the mosquitoes.

I like to have all this done by Memorial Day so I can enjoy sitting outside on the holiday but this year everything is behind schedule due to the weather.

Did so enjoy my trip to Bordines....so much to choose from...but so little space, money and energy ;-)

The Rookery

This is the rookery last winter. The empty nests of the Great Blue Heron are easy to spot with the trees bare, more difficult in the spring. This is located on an island at Kensington Metropark.

Flying to the nest.

Look at me, look at me!

I followed this beautiful Baltimore Oriole waiting for it to get into my camera range. At first it was at the very top of a tree singing away. He was so proud of himself and was singing "Hey, hey, look at me. I am such a handsome fellow"

Spring at Lower Huron Metropark

Well now, let me tell you about my day. Finally a sunny day so I head down to Lower Huron Metropark. The birds are singing and I am chasing them around with my binoculars and my camera. Took some great pictures of the redbuds, wild flowers and song birds. After a few hours I decide to head back and my car would not start. I am so bummed out. Called John (Gretta's husband) and he came to take a look at it, but to no avail. Thanks, John for the effort. I really appreciated you looking at it) $125 just to get it to the garage. They may not even get around to looking at it today and since they are closed on Sat. I am stuck all weekend with no car. The worst of it is I was suppose to have Liam and Emma tonight. I am really feeling bad. I need some support and a shoulder to cry on....that's before I even find out how much it will cost to have my car fixed. :-(

These are some beautiful tulips from my garden. I always forget which tulips I planted the fall before so it a surprise when they come up.

Oakwoods Metropark had "celebrating song birds" today. It is a rainy Sat. but I decided to go anyway. We did have a bird walk and I really enjoyed it despite the drizzle. I really want to get out to Lower Huron to see the redbuds and take photos of the wildflowers. Also I want to go to Kensington to see the heron rookery where the great blues are nesting now. Plus, can't wait to go to Bordine's for my flowers....so much to do so little nice weather. ;-)

Bird Walk

On Sunday I did a bird walk at Lake Erie Metropark. I took my new binoculars but not my camera...so, no pictures. What a shame too because I would have had some great shots.
The walk was led by two park rangers both with a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed myself with a group of 8 other cordial birders.
I saw so many birds that I never would have seen if on my own. We saw a Cooper's Hawk sitting on her nest (I always think of hawks as males for some reason). There were 3 sweet owlets. Also seen were a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbecks, redstarts, tree swallows, a trush, beautiful Baltimore Orieles plus herons, a cormorant and wood ducks.
Over a two hour walk on the park's nature trail on a beautiful May morning.........
Last evening I took a walk along the Ecorse river at Council Park. There were too many people hanging out ...kids whizzing around on bikes, skaters, runners, walkers and lots of teens just hanging out. I have a hard time getting past the litter in the park and along the banks of the river. But it is so close to my house (which is appreciated due to the gas prices) and everytime I go I see a great bird (this is where I saw the Pileated Woodpecker). Yesterday I saw a Yellow Warbler...so small and well, yellow. Loving my new binoculars!

Amazing Creatures

Jelly Fish ? This thing is amazing!

Up here! Look at me, hey, look at me!

You lookin' at me?

I am so handsome I am in the zoo!

Aren't God's creatures just amazing? From beautiful to scary....to comical or interesting. I'm so lucky to have gotten some great pictures of this fantastic wild life.
