The Meadow

2016
2017
Every summer I take such joy in the meadow at Lake Erie Metropark. The field is lit up by gold. Swallows swooping all around, an occasional Goldfinch adds another splash of yellow and butterflies all adorn this beautiful meadow.
Alas, this is what it looked like this year....totally overgrown by Turkey Feet Grass. I was so disappointed :-(

 A few Coreopsis.
Gray Headed Coneflowers complete with bugs
I think that it needs burned down again to revive it. Will talk the interpreter on Saturday to see what he says about my beautiful meadow.
Blue and yellow.

Lily

Never have seen a lily this big. Planted outside the conservatory on Belle Isle. Wow, impressed!

Herb Garden

This is the bench that I like to sit on while in the kitchen garden at Greenfield Village. It overlooks the whole garden and I like to test my knowledge by identifying plants. There are herbs as well as medicinal plants (some still used today). Amongst the herbs are planted several varieties of Basil, Dill, Lemon Balm and many more.
 Echinacea
Also called Cone Flower this plant was used to encourage the immune system and to treat colds and the flu.

                                                                       Achillea
This old time remedy is also called Yarrow and was referred to as the "healing herb". It was used to treat wounds, cuts and abrasions.
 Mullein
Used to treat respiratory disorders such as coughs and asthma.

Down on the Farm

Little one
I love the farm but don't get out there very often...it is quite the hike for me.

Load of manure .... wondered where they were taking it.

 Not a very handsome turkey
Up to the farmhouse
