Happy Holidays

I am so excited to be having company for the holiday week.....can't wait to see everyone. On Christmas Eve 2/3 of my family will be together! So, while I am enjoying the celebrations, I may not have a chance to get on my computer...if not, see you all in 2019.

Magazine Features

Really enjoyed these magazine covers from the war years....Post and Ladies Home Journal

Yikes, the year that I was born! And this shit is still going on 76 years later.

War Years...at The Henry Ford

Have one of my Dad's ration books....cherish it.
Amazing that they would produce a candy box {for kids} as a Pearl Harbor momento. Wonder what the kids thought?

Cereal box also used as entertainment for the kids.
Too bad the women had to quit the job that they loved best when the men came home.....some of them who were single were left with no way to earn a living.
A women's roles during the war years.

We Are the World......

Norman Rockwell
at The Henry Ford

Rockwell, Roosevelt

 The Four Freedoms
I so enjoyed this exhibit at the Henry Ford. Loved all the WWII posters, magazine covers and artwork. So much seems so relevant today that I decided to post some things on Facebook to see if it will help people not to be so hateful. The museum does such a good job with the exhibits. I've seen a few and they were all wonderful.

I love this Norman Rockwell....that kid in the middle with the rabbit foot around his neck brought a tear to my eye.

Innovation Nation

I spent a few hours at The Henry Ford yesterday and was able to watch the filming of Innovation Nation with Mo Rocca (seen here) as host. Interesting to watch all this. A huge crew to film this 30 minute show (seen on CBS at 9am on Saturdays). They used several locations and I kept running into them and having to detour around the area where they were working. I did meet Mo Rocca 2 years ago at Greenfield Village....very friendly and outgoing.

The young lady with the red hair is Alie Ward who is a presenter on the show and now hosts a spin off show of her own. Need to check that out....don't have any info about it other than it's a science show.

Art Deco Bridge....

on Belle Isle is old and lovely...too bad it is in such bad shape. I don't know how they could save it. Curious as to when it was built, I guess in the 1920's.  It is on one of the roads that cuts through the woods in the middle of the island. This is the front right side going south.
Back side of bridge on the right side also......jeez, it never occured to me to look on the left side.
There is some graffiti on the bridge but it seems some of it is gone.....used to be covered.

 Left side
I always tend to romanticize these old structures and can picture a couple rowing a boat along the stream and going under this bridge.......I'm sure it did happen ;-)
