Happy New Year from the Michigan part of the Carney family!
Years ago, in the winter, I always had Hyacinths blooming in the house. I’ve wanted one of those fancy vases that holds one bulb. So, I broke down, bought a vase and 6 bulbs…….flowers all winter! Of course I still have my Amaryllis to look forward to. They are in the basement still dormant.
The hyacinths are lovely and have a sweet smell that makes it feel like spring is in the house. I just put mine in water yesterday and hope to see the bulb pushing roots soon.
My dear friend, Gretta, passed away recently. I am so sad that she is gone forever. Remembering all the good times that we had together, all her support in times of trouble and always her sense of fun.
All summer and most of fall I waited for some morning glory blossoms.....nothing. I have grown this vine before in the exact same place and they were wonderful. This year the vine grew to the top of the porch roof and looked healthy....no flowers. Now, it is loaded with buds. In a few weeks we will probably get a frost.....so sad.
The conservatory has been closed for over a year, recently reopening. I was last there in January 2020 and it closed in March due tot the pandemic. So very glad to be back......most of these photos posted today were taken just when I walked in the door. I heard that they had gotten some grant money and if they did it was well spent. Many new plant varieties and not an open spot in any of the beds. It was beautiful! Usually in the summer it is too hot for me under the glass but the day that I was there it was beautiful......on the downside it was crowded. I have more photos to post.
