Snapdragons

Snapdragons got their name from the fact that someone thought they looked like dragons and when you hold the side of the flower together and then let go they snap shut. Yes, they do snap shut but I can't see the dragon resemblance can you?

Shrimp Boats

One last look at the ocean.... like sands through the fingers of our lives...ha! The tide was so high that the water came under our chairs. We were laughing as we held up our feet. There was no where to go...to sit or to walk, the tide was that high. It was a way for the ocean to say "go home, Carol"  ;-)

Thank you to my grand daughter, Allison, for all the sacrifices that she had to make for me like giving up her bedroom for 3 weeks. And thanks to my grandson John for letting me use the van every morning giving me the wheels to go to the beach and Brookgreen. Thanks to  the whole family for all their hospitality and generosity. I had the best time ever!
The shrimp boats were a bust. There was no way to get a shot without the steel mill in the back ground....this was the best of the lot. We did have a nice walk and ice cream after. Pretty nice evening.

Goodbye Atlantic

Later today, we are going for a walk on the beach...my last for this trip. Later we are going to drive to Georgetown to see if I can get some photos of the shrimp boats. ....then maybe dinner.
Yesterday, I got an I phone and I think that damn phone is much smarter than me. Amy and Allison are helping me with it but I think that I am past the age that technology can sink into my brain. Will try later to take a picture with it and send it via text...if I can do that I am on my way. For those of you wondering, the phone itself was .97 cents and I was eligble for an upgrade...think I got a pretty good deal.
Tomorrow, my last full day here, we are going to Scatories  http://www.scatoris.com/  for lunch....my favorite Italian place down here...yum!

Being a Tourist

Allison and I went up to Myrtle Beach and were tourist for a few hours. We walked the board walk and the strand, got involved somehow with an Elvis impersonator and ate ice cream. We did manage to easily avoid the arcades, beach stores and souvenir shops. Lots of spring breakers but not near the crowd that they would get in the summer. I hadn't been up there in a few years, Amy was working so Allison and I were the occasional tourist.

Peaches Corner has been here forever...my son remembers it from the early '90s when he was in the Marine Corp. Allison took this pic with her phone and we sent it to him.

Daisy

I was thrilled to see daisies blooming this early....June in Michigan. Had fun playing around with the editing.
Having a great time here in SC, busy every day. Tomorrow we are having a big shopping day. Weather is beautiful, 82 right now with shining sun.

Conway Riverwalk

"and this is where we spent Easter Sunday"

Too bad that I didn't take pictures of the great spiral ham that we had...and the Easter eggs.

Sea Birds

What a great birding day I had! Got to the state park about 7:30 and spotted an Anhinga perched on a post on the causeway and it got better from there. Beautiful weather and low tide made it the  greatest day for birding since I arrived in SC. If only CNB bank didn't steal my $250 from their ATM, it would have been a perfect day. It looks like I will have to file a dispute to get my money back.
Love all my feathered friends and got 3 life birds today!

Brown Pelican
Roseate Spoonbill
Great Egret
Great Blue Heron

Anhinga
Belted Kingfisher

This is where it was all happening this morning ...low tide on the saltwater side...see causeway in the background.
To make the morning even more special I saw the first Painted Bunting of my visit. Still hope to someday get a great picture of this beautiful bird. Also got a good look at a Black and White Warbler but no photo...a new bird for my life list.

A Day in Charleston, SC

Great weather for our day trip to Charleston yesterday. Here we are near The Battery enjoying the sail boats and the beautiful bridge. We had  lunch at a cafe/bakery called Saffron. I had a sandwich on the best croissant since Paris. Afterwards, we went on a historic carriage ride...more photos to come. On the way home it was PF Changs for dinner.
Thank you Takeshi and Amy for a great day

Wheeeee....

Takeshi spotted this Yellow-crowned Night Heron....one for my life list. I've seen and photographed a Black-crowned but this is my first Yellow-crowned....yea!

Easter Sunday

 Jeep

Despite the fact that it rained on and off all day on Easter Sunday we had a nice day. We went to Conway and walked along the river walk and had a yummy lunch at Coopers...a buffet.  I took some nice family photos that I have yet to edit. Also asked Amy to drive me out a little way in the country so I could get some rural pictures for a facebook page that I belong to. Got this absolutely fabulous photo of a jeep....I love it.
We came home and Amy cooked a great ham dinner...it was a lovely day all the way around!
