Night Shoot Wyandotte

Really enjoyed doing this night shoot in downtown Wyandotte. The weather cooperated. I learned a lot ie: shooting in AV mode. Don't know if I would ever make use of these techniques again though. Our model appears to be taking a picture of herself. This was done by using a long exposure while Jeff ran around her shooting off a flash. It is amazing that he is not in the photo at all (how they do that?)

People were stopping and asking what we were doing and we told some of them we were waiting for Kid Rock. Great fun!

Flag Football

Sure had a great day watching Liam play flag football. The weather was beautiful and Liam scored a few touchdowns. I am still challenged by the camera settings for action pictures and am going to need advice from my instructor. Took about 90 pictures (love digital) and got about 30 good ones.

Well, all the sports are winding down for Liam and Emma and this week I am off to Kansas where I will get to watch Mikey play football. Can't wait to see Mikey and Sean. It has been almost a year (Christmas) since I've seen the boys. I will be like the paparazzi!

This and That

Where is your family, Miss Wild Turkery?

I loved you when you were young and green.

Never too much color!

Hudson Mills Metropark

Red-Bellied Woodpecker
Cardinal

Acorn Trail

Huron River

Hike/Bike Path

Bog

A great morning for a walk and all the birds were out to greet me........ the big 4......titmouse, chickadee, downy and nuthatch. Also saw a heron, tree sparrow, numerous blue jays, robins, crows, grackles, cardinals (pictured first) and a red-bellied woodpecker ( I think it was....looked just like a red bellied only gray and smaller). So glad that I got out on Monday because the weather has not been good since.

Need to spend more time in my own back yard doing fall clean up. I have my own little downy woodpecker that visits on occasion. I hung out some suet and huge flocks of house sparrows descended and ate both cakes in two days. Very discouraging.

Hope to get out to a few more metroparks while there is still some color.

Birding: Not a Bird in Sight

Walked almost 3 miles at Crosswinds Marsh on the Blue Heron Trail. Hoped to see a heron...blue heron trail right? No herons, few bids of any kind. Very disappointing walk. Nor was the light good for pictures and too many bugs, my shoes were soaked....complain, complain, complain. I did need the exercise so that was one positive outcome of the day.

Saw "The Big Year" today and really loved it. I don't think that you have to be a birder to appreciate it. The scenery was beautiful and I loved all three guys in it. Jack Black especially was good. I have "life list" going but will never see those kinds of numbers.

FYI: If you click on a photo, blogspot has a new viewer which is great and easy to use.

I'm Getting Better at This!

Our Photograph Class . Picture taken at Heritage Park in Taylor by Jeff Thomas

Thank you to my granddaughter, Emma, for being my model so that I could practice my photo shots. She was a great subject and I think that she had as much fun as I did. I will recommend her for Teen America's Next Top Model (if they ever have such a show).

I don't have a photoshop program so I use a free program called Picnic on Picasa. It is pretty basic but works OK and hey, it's free! I have gone on 3 photo shoots this week. Yesterday I walked 2 1/2 miles on a trail at Crosswinds Marsh. Will post pictures soon.

Raining today...meeting Gretta for lunch. Perfect day to be at the mall.

Larson Middle School Rebels

Emma #21

Really enjoyed Emma's basketball game! My pictures are not good and of course, I have many excuses for that! It's great to see the kids playing sports especially when they are playing their hearts out. A lot of energy on the court.

Kensington Early Morning

Sunrise

The weather has been so fabulous I had to see how the weather looked at Kensington Metropark. It is always beautiful there but with the trees lit up, I knew it would be spectacular. I love going there on a weekday (I have that option as I am retired) because there are fewer people. I walked Deer Run which took me about two hours and ran into only two other walkers. Never meet a park bench I didn't like and I enjoy just sitting and waiting for the birds to come. I saw wild turkeys and of course, deer.

It was a great morning and I got to practice using my camera's manual mode. Camera class tonight!

Solidago

Can't quite capture my beautiful fall garden. It looks so beautiful but the camera is not seeing it...my ineptitude of course. The large yellow plant is salidago , better known as a garden hybrid of ragweed.
