Crack O' Dawn Coffee Club 2/4/12

We had a lovely walk on Saturday. The temperature was moderate and very tolerable. However, it was overcast with a heavy mist hanging over the lake. Above is Gerry, Lake Erie Metropark's Interpreter and Nature Center's supervisor. He is explaining what the chickadees were eating from the marsh.
We had an eventful morning, seeing a bald eagle, tundra swans, merganser ducks and coots all by the lake and songbirds: tree sparrow, cardinals, chickadees in the wooded areas.

This yearling was bold enough to come right up to us looking for food. People feed them along the bike/hike path and they are becoming too tame and unafraid of people. They are also feeding the deer from their cars even though the park rules prohibit feeding of wildlife. This little guy came up to us showing no fear and posing so nicely for our cameras.

I call these fairy steps. Gerry said they are so interesting when covered with snow. Will have to wait to see that....maybe next winter.

As you can see, the lake is gray and foggy. These are tundra swans and I am sorry the picture is such poor quality.

These are American Coots. Hard to see, I know, but they were way out there. Gerry said they were "a raft of coots". You can see that it was not a particularly good day for picture taking but it was a great day for a walk.

Later we went out to breakfast and later the sun came out! I really appreciate how friendly the group is. Six months ago they were just a group of strangers but now I consider them friends.
