A Congregation of Egrets

I went for a little drive thru Lake Erie Metropark to check out the colors and wow, those Maples were on fire....beautiful! What I didn't expect was about 30 Egrets! As I was rounding the bend toward the Nature Center I saw a few cars pulled off to the side of the road. I couldn't believe all the Egrets in the marsh on either side of the road. One gentleman told me there was a Snowy Egret in the bunch which is very rare this far north. He let me look at it through his digiscope. I'm assuming that this group is migrating south and stopped off for a meal and some rest.

I was curious as to what a flock of Egrets is called so I Googled it. There are several names but "congregation" seems to be the most common.....so, a congregation of Egrets....love it!

There is the Snowy to the far left......sorry for the poor quality of the photo.

On the way back I saw a Great Blue Heron among the mix....the Heron is related to the Egret family and they migrate south as well.
