Crack O' Dawn February

We had the smallest group ever (only 7 walkers) and it was too bad because it was a great walk. It wasn't too cold but the trails were treacherous and I was happy to get back unscathed. Starting off we saw a lot of song birds as someone had put down corn on the sidewalk. There were White-throated Sparrows, Juncos, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Downy Woodpecker and a Red-bellied Woodpecker, Cardinals and  Robins.

This guy was just not obeying the signs as he ran off...deer everywhere.

You can see the Bald Eagle in the tree to the right. To the left of the island were flocks of Mute Swans further left and inward, Great Blue Herons.

All the water fowl out on the lake were amazing......Tundra Swans, Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks all massed out on the unfrozen water. Couldn't believe that I didn't take my binoculars!
Look at that Swan taking off...what a racket their wings make.

Remembering the meadow in summer!

Snowed In

We had 14 inches of snow yesterday and today we are digging out. I am so lucky that I don't have to go to work or go anywhere as far as that goes. A lot of drifting has really caused problems and also the snow plow pushed all that snow in front of the drives...what a mess!  Today was suppose to be trash day....no one put out their garbage....looks like no mail today either. I would love to go out to one of the parks. I bet it is beautiful!
Impossible to get up the steps, front or back.
My chore guy blowing across the street.
This is the snow blocking drives.
From the inside...the best place to be.

Amazing how the snow formed a perfect pyramid cap on this light.

Chasing Eagles

The eagles are back! Check out the 2 Bald Eagles in the tree...there were also 3 others soaring overhead. So happy that they are so close to my home. Not great pictures, I know, but it is proof that they are there in Ecorse on the Detroit River. Last year we saw them at Lake Erie Metropark but none so far this winter. Will look for them next Saturday when we walk with our Crack O' Dawn group. The eagles are usually on the island across from the Cherry Island trail.
