The Rookery

The rookery at Kensington Metropark
Mr. & Mrs.

Dad bringing home dinner

Had a great morning at Kensington on Wednesday. Beautiful, beautiful weather! There were a lot of people out....kids too. The great thing at Kensington is that everone is so friendly. Other park people will say hello or good morning but at Kensington they stop to talk asking you what you have seen or telling you where the best bird sightings are and so on.

All my little feathered friends were out so my camera was a snappin'

Saw the cutest little song sparrow plus blue birds and many cardinals and red-wings.

I was thinking that it may be too early for the Great Blues to be on the nest but they didn't disappoint. This male kept flying off and soon would return with food. Got tons of great photos.

Jupiter and Venus

American Coot

Nature photographer shooting the same coot......you can tell I am old. Not jealous of a young blond...no, I'm jealous of her lens!

Lone duck on a pond except I couldn't identify it in my bird book. Nothing came close so I posted the picture on the metropark's facebook page and the interpreter from Lake St. Clair said it was not a duck at all but an American Coot. Wanted to know when I saw it so they could put it in their records as it was the first one spotted this spring. Funny, I remember Gerry pointing out a raft of Coots out on Lake Erie this winter. Well, Lake Erie is further south than Lake St. Clair. ;-)

What a beautiful day today! Sunny and it got up to 70 degrees. A bit windy though but great.I spent the day cleaning my basement so the sunshine was wasted on me. Hope to get out for a walk tomorrow.

Our Photo Shoot at the DIA

From paintings, sculpture, glassware, pottery, furniture and every other artistic endeavor you can imagine, we saw and photographed it all. I learned so much about composition and lighting. It was too dark in most places but we could not use flash photography or tripods so it was pretty challenging. We were snapping everything and covered a lot of territory. I really want to go back to capture all that I missed!
