The Detroit Public Library #2
As a great lover of books (I have an nice little library myself) I was a little disappointed with the library itself. I guess that I pictured dark rooms with high shelves filled with musty volumes about medieval history and Jane Austin novels. Instead, the rooms were modern with florescent lighting and computers. The other thing that struck me was the number of security people working there. There was a career counselling event going on upstairs with most Michigan Universities represented.
This room appeared to be books for children with an event areas set upas well. I regret that I didn't get pictures of the furniture which was a 1960/70s design...really cool + shaped benches. This beautiful fireplace was in that room and there was a huge mural of Michigan overhead which included the two paintings below.

The Detroit Public Library
The Detroit Public Library Main branch was built in 1921 in the Italian Renaissance style by architect Cass Gilbert. In 1963 two wings were added.
The library system is the 4th largest in the country with the main building on Woodward Ave. and 23 branches.
The entrance, lobby and staircases were beautiful. In a second floor meeting room were spectacular stained glass windows. It was a real joy to photograph!
More to come....watch this space.

Athen's Theatre Company's Cinderella
My beautiful granddaughter, Emma
Wicked step mother and sisters and poor Cinderella
Emma as a villager
Emma at the ball
Making the slipper fit
Cinderella and the Prince
Final bow
Please forgive my poor quality pictures. It is so difficult with the lighting to get a decent shot and Emma was across the stage most of the time. At least I got a few to remember the play.

I'm Back.....
Well, I went from warm sunny days to cold, rainy, snowy and just plain miserable weather. The trees are still not leafed out but there are smaller bushes starting to show some green and the daffs are in bloom....no tulips yet in my yard. It snowed/flurried yesterday ...ugh! It is almost May. Please Lord, let this be over. Anyway, I am home and super busy trying to get caught up. Luckily, my Chore Guy came while I was gone and did a spring clean up and raked all my lawn. It looks great and one less thing to worry about.
Going to see my granddaughter, Emma, in her school play tonight and tomorrow bright and early we are going on a photo shoot to the Detroit Public Library, main branch. Looking forward to both but I miss everyone in SC...I miss them all and the flowers and birds and sun and the ocean. In a sense it is good to be home but all the hassles were still here waiting for me.
Hope to get some photos edited on Sunday and make a start on our newsletter as well.

It Was a Turtle Kind of Morning
There were about a dozen turtles sunning themselves this morning at a pond at Brookgreen. It's been a few days since anyone has seen the sun!
My first butterfly of the season...a Black Swallowtail.
Goodbye beautiful Brookgreen!

Goodbye Ocean
Finally got up early and it paid off. I said goodbye to the ocean and was greeted with some beautiful skies. I am so sad to go. I will miss all the beautiful nature here in South Carolina. I will miss, most of all, my family who has treated me so well and made me feel so welcome.
Driving on the road to the nature center I spotted this Bald Eagle.
Around on the boardwalk side, there he was, overlooking the salt water marsh. He is but a speck....
and here he is from a speck to a dot with my meager 300 mm lens.
Lovely Green Heron
Female Red-winged Blackbird
Double-crested Cormorant
