Red Winged Blackbird....harbinger of spring
A few years ago, I spent Christmas at my son's in Kansas. I wanted to photograph some old barns so my daughter-in-law took me out to the country in Missouri. We came upon this huge flock of red-wings and I thought "so that's where all our Red-wings go for the winter". They are the first migratory bird to arrive back in Michigan....usually the beginning of March, before the Robins. Hearing their song lightens your heart because you know that soon it will be spring.
I did this collage of Red-wings ...the top is a female...God didn't give her any beauty that's for sure.
