The first Spring bird to arrive in Michigan is not the Robin but the Red-Winged Blackbird. They usually appear in flocks (called a murmuration) in February or early March. Their distinctive call can be heard in fields and woods. The flock may have other black-birds such as Grackles or Starlings. I actually heard one yesterday so now I know that Spring is on the way, although our weather has been Spring like the last few days.....not to last I'm sure.
Welcome Red-Wings!
