...just a walk in the park

Black-capped Chickadee

I had a lovely walk at Kensington on Sunday. It was such a beautiful day that everyone was out with their kids. In fact, it was so nice for November that I really do believe the "global warming" thing. Set up my bird shots with sunflower seeds and we had quite a party at the "elbow tree" on the Aspen Trail. Have a lot more bird photos to post.

Detroit Christmas Tree Lighting 2012

Went with my friend Susan and Deb Will to the Detroit Christmas Tree Lighting downtown at Campus Martius. It was packed. We couldn't get close enough to see the ice skaters or hear the program but it was fun none-the-less. The weather was perfect...no wind and not too cold. The tree was beautiful with lots of ohhs and ahhs when the lights went on.

Afterward we walked to Greektown to eat. It was filled with people. It was Friday night after all. Had the famous pizza at Nikki's and had great conversation about the "old days". The three of us worked together about 20+ years ago at Heritage Hospital. The conversation went something like "Do you remember...can't think of her name" (none of us could could but we all knew who it was)  Lot of laughs remembering the fun we had together.

Christmas Cactus

OK, so I know my cactus is blooming a month early....I do this on purpose :-) so it is done by the holidays when I want all my decorations up. Every year, as soon as it is nice, I put my cactus on my front porch. When autumn comes, I bring it in, put it in a dark corner and stop watering it. Soon it starts to set it's buds. Honestly, I have no control over it. It is loaded with blooms....beautiful. After it stops flowering, it spends the rest of the winter in the basement bathroom. It loves the cool temperature and the sun from the two windows...perfect conditions.

Monochromatic November

Bridge at Lower Huron Metropark
One of my photos for my camera class assignment....depth of field
All of nature is colorless or I should say shades of blacks and grays, browns and tans and dull greens. When I was at the park on Sunday even the water was a iron gray and the sky dull and gray...ugh! Did find some color as these cyclists rode by. A spot of color in an otherwise monocromatic backdrop.

I was feeling so melancholy about winter coming and was missing the sun. Just going through my photos cheered me up so I decided to play around with them, use some effects and think about summer as I did so. The older that you get the faster the time seems to go by. Summer flew past in the blink of an eye.

Red Barn on Lima Center Road

This is the last of my barn photographs and my favorite barn on the tour. The barn is still in use as a dairy barn. It looks in good repair. Since no one answered the door, we couldn't go on the property and had to do our shooting from the road. It had been such a gloomy day but as we were finishing up Jeff shouted "Here comes the sun. Get ready." The sun came out from behind the clouds for maybe 2 minutes but I was able to get some great shots.

 Cows in residence. "Hello ladies"
The large gambrel-roof with rounded east and west ends, allowed for horse teams to be turned around indoors. A very large and impressive barn. They don't build them like this anymore!
#17 on the Washtenaw County Barn Tour.
