Summer Flower Palozza

http://www.bordines.com/                                                                                       http://www.tellys.com/

I made my annual trip to Bordine's Nursey and as usual I spent way too much money and now have to plant all the stuff that I bought.....oh, my aching back! I just get so carried away when I walk into that vast greenhouse (s). Everything is so beautiful and my list goes out the window.  I also stopped at Telly's in Troy on my way home because I like their herbs. They have a big selection and this year beside my dill, parsley, basil, I bought some thyme, some exotic Greek herb and Fennel. The last time that I planted Fennel it got as big as a tree.
I plan on spending the next 3 days planting and hope that by Monday I will still be able to walk  ;-)

Caladium

I learned today that they are not selling regular impatiens as they are infected with a disease that also infects your soil. The cashier told me that Lowe's is selling them as "treated" impatiens but that is bogus because there is no treatment at this time. I always plant begonias anyway because they do well for me and don't need the constant watering.

I want these....
and these...
and those two big urns

I did wave at the petunias but they didn't wave back ;-(
My haul!

Heidelberg: Arson to Art

It was apparent today, that the Heidelberg Project is under way with clean up and art. From the grocery cart full of charred mannequin heads, the melded VHS tapes and the strategically placed toy fire truck these are just a few of the obvious ready to display found art objects. I'm sure that they are ready to be even more creative. There were a lot of people out today probably due to the press about the fire as well as the benefit concert. Anyway, I think that my photos are creepy in an artsy kind of way.

Brookgreen Gardens

I found more Brookgreen Garden photos that I had edited. I think this is the last of them ;-)

There are so many photo shoots going on right now that I can't keep tract of them  The group went to the Masonic Temple over the weekend and got some great shots. I was too focused on the birding to go. We are going Wednesday to The Heidelberg. Jeff listed shoots that the summer class will be doing and they all look great. Meeting will be held first Sat in June. Will sign up this summer and pray that it isn't too hot. Last summer with temps hovering around 100 most of the summer, I didn't even go to a Tiger game. Praying for beautiful summer days and lazy afternoons on the glider on my front porch!

Mother's Day Bird Walk

Went on a bird walk both Saturday and Sunday at Lake Erie Metropark. The weather was not good...cold and overcast. In fact, when I got up this morning it was only 37 degrees...ugh!
Between the two days we saw so many birds plus a lot of other things. We saw a little mink crossing on a log over one of the canals. Also saw a Coopers Hawk sitting on her nest plus 3 different Loons flying over and an eagle this morning. We saw Herons and Egrets and of course there were the usual "residents" like, Robins, Cardinals, Jays, Chickadees, Red-breasted Woodpecker and Titmice but there were many migratory song birds. Here is what we saw: Ruby-crowned Kinglet,  Blackurnian Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Ovenbird, Catbird, Phoebe, Baltimore Oriole, Flicker, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher,  Black and white Warbler and a Hermit Thrush.

My not so good pictures of a  Gray Catbird,
 Eastern Phoebe
 Hermit Thrush

and a Baltimore Oriole pair.
