St. Paul's Lutheran Church

When we were in the area around the train station, we came across this old church and decided to park and explore. The church was open and we met two young people that were nice enough to tell us about the church and give us a tour. Thy said the church, when first built was St. Paul's German Lutheran Church and is the 2nd oldest church in Detroit. It has seen many tenants since then and had been extensively "remodeled". They bought the property with plans to restore it and use it as a recording studio and an event venue. The whole building was in need of much work and money. Very happy to see plans and progress in this area of Detroit.

This photo was taken by my friend Mary Jo and shows a great perspective of the train station looming over the church.
We were told that they spent $25,000 for a new roof but the steeple could use some work also. They said that the bells are still there.

 The rectory

This is the only picture that I got inside because it was dark and I didn't want to take advantage of their time ...there was also a pipe organ totally covered up from the downstairs area but we were able to see it upstairs. It still works but I bet it needs tuning.
I absolutely love exploring the old parts of Detroit. You never know what you will come across. My son has promised me a drive through some of the areas that he has come across in his work.
