Statuary

There are so many sculptures and other pieces of art at Brookgreen that I don't think I could ever get around to photographing them all. Some of the more massive pieces are by Anna Hyatt Huntington herself (1861-1973). You walk around any corner and there is a lovely little piece surrounded by Azaleas or tulips or a sculpture in the middle of a reflecting pond or one that is a fountain itself. All of them are displayed to their best advantage. I love this place!

I believe that this wall is what's left of the old kitchen garden. My favorite little fat cherub is reflected in this pool.
There are several structures that house smaller pieces such as this one that has sculptures by Fredrick Remington (1861-1909) who is famous for his depictions of the old west.....a lot of horses in motion with cowboys etc.
Of course, as with a lot of sculptures, many seem to lack clothing....I guess Greek or Roman gods didn't wear anything and loved to lounge around in the "all together"
This is one piece by Anna Huntington as well as the two horse sculpture at the garden entrance. Anna Huntington created her pieces in her work shop at Atalaya located across the road (rt.17) at Huntington Beach State Park.
Love the gate with the sculpture in the middle of  reflecting pond surrounded (as in this one) with Pansies and Foxgloves.
