I got to see the Osprey nest that got moved the other day....you can see the osprey sitting on the nest and her partner on the pole. They seem pretty comfortable at their new location
The nest was in a really dangerous spot just outside the metropark’s front gate, and could have caught fire and knocked out power to nearby residents and businesses.
In partnership with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and several state agencies, plus the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system, DTE lineworkers installed a new pole inside the metropark, with a platform attached. Crews went up in their bucket trucks to safely remove the eggs from the nest (and temporarily kept them in a cooler), removed the nest from the DTE equipment, and drove it over to the new platform and placed it there. They then carefully put the eggs back in the nest. Mama and papa bird circled overhead, watching this production. This is not the first time DTE has moved an osprey nest – crews say the move at least one a year.
