Heron Rookery

At this time of year it is easy to see all the heron nests on the little island at Kensington Metropark. When the herons are nesting the leaves are on the trees but you can still see the top nests pretty easily and of course the birds are so large that they stick out above the foliage. I remember being at Magnolia Plantation last year. We took a nature ride through the swamps and marshes and there was a huge Egret rookery. There were Egrets, Herons and Anhingas......large numbers of all. I'd like to go back this spring.
Spring seems so far away though, doesn't it?
